"Once upon a time..."

Ring of Life

Once upon a time there was a Teddy bear
His life was simple and mostly fair
The girl that was in love with him
Cradled him whenever the lights grew dim
She was a gentle kind of girl
With a lovely smile and hair full of curl'
The girl grew up, it was such a pride
Soon she became this wonderful young bride
And the Teddy bear...was set aside
She now had something that was more real
Something not so fuzzy to her feel
Teddy then, he was neatly put away
A gentle last stroke "Good bye" he heard her say
The oak lid closed and darkness came
Poor Teddy bear, what a shame
There he lay never to be touched again
Year after year, so endlessly it seemed
Teddy didn't know if he ever would be redeemed
The trunk was moved around
But never was the heavy lid unbound
Until the day, he saw the light
A little girl felt for his plight
The girl she lifted up the heavy oak
The Teddy opened an eye and almost choked
Burned in his memory the face he saw
Anxiously he waved with just one paw
She saw the paw, she saw
The girl picked up the Teddy bear
That was lying there so cold and bare
She smiled, as only little girls can do
And pouring out of her mouth came
The long awaited
"I love you"
She was a gentle kind of girl
With a lovely smile and her hair full of curl'
